On April 15th, the kids and I went with our field trip group to Kroger. It was my turn to pick the activity for the group. You can read here and here about other outings we went on with our little field trip group.
The people at Kroger treated us so well. Our group got a fantastic tour of the store. The field trip started off in the floral department. The store had a nice lady there who talked about the different variety of flowers they have at the store.Next, our group went to the produce section of the store. There the kids learned about various fruits and vegetables. The man in charge of the produce tour asked if anyone knew what radishes were. Surprisingly, Hyrum did and got to spray (drown) them with water. The produce man also had donuts and milk for those who answered questions correctly and in the end, gave everyone a donuts, milk and fruit. The next stop was to Krogers' specialty cheese part of the store. The store makes their own mozzarella cheese and melted it on a cracker for us to try. It was very tasty. The kids didn't want to try a sample which is surprising because they LOVE cheese. The next stop was the bakery. The kids were able to look at the pretty cakes, ask questions and enjoy the cookies.
After the bakery, the kids were able to go in the back of the store and learn about what happens back there. They watched a box compressor and checked out a huge trailer truck and learned about deliveries.Next, the kids were able to talk to the meat department guy. They got up close and personal with a lobster. Hyrum was very excited to find at the store "circle meat" that our family sometimes buys.Next, the kids were able to check out the freezer and the fridge area of the stores. They thought that was pretty cool.
The kids were bale to receive a coloring book from the pharmacy and the Take Care Clinic in the store. As the kids left, they were each given a rose and a balloon from the store. The kids really enjoyed this field trip. Kroger did a fantastic job of teaching the kids about their store.
