Fire Station Outing

Earlier today, with a group of friends, we went on a tour of a fire station. To say that the boys were excited to be there would be an understatement.

When we first arrived, the kids were reminded by the firemen that if ever they found a match or a lighter they needed to give it to their parents. Before we started the tour, the kids took the a fireman oath which included raising their hand and promising to clean-up their toys and a few other things. It was really cute.

The kids were then given a firemen sticker and a hat. Emmy was very shy when the firemen were handing out the stickers and hats; she wanted mommy to hold hers instead. After awhile, she did decide to wear her hat.The tour started out in the kitchen. As soon as we walked into the kitchen Ben, went over to the coffee pot asking the fireman what it was. The fireman told Ben that the unfamiliar item was a coffee maker. Hyrum then loudly declared, "We don't drink Coffee, it is bad for you." The fireman said that is right, coffee isn't good for you right now. Then the topic was dropped. I about died.

The next part of the tour was that we got to see where the firemen sleep and work out. After that, we saw the best part of the tour; the garage with the fire trucks.
The boys, Hyrum especially, loved it as the fireman talked about all the different parts of the fire truck and what they do. Ben got a little distracted as you can see in the picture below as he watched another fireman get dressed in his fireman gear.
Hyrum thought that the fireman jacket was very heavy.

Hyrum was fascinated as he learned about different parts of the fireman gear.
Ben did not like seeing the fireman in his gear. He got really upset and started to whimper saying he wanted to go home. After the fireman took his helmet off, Ben was much more content to stay a little longer at the fire station. The kids learned about the different types of ladders on a fire truck. The kids also learned about different types of tools that assist in putting out fires.
The favorite part of the trip to the fire station, for the boys, was when the kids were able to play on the truck. To be honest, I think Emmy's favorite part was socializing with the other little girls. They all had a fun time pretending that they were driving the fire truck.
At the end of the tour, Hyrum said he wanted to be a fire truck when he gets bigger.Hyrum had lots of questions for the firemen during our tour. The firemen were very nice and had lots of patience with his questions. Going to the fire station was the perfect way to spend a rainy morning.
