Valentine's Pillows

Some of you might remember this post about my birthday last year. For my birthday last year, my awesome friends here in Memphis very lovingly gave me a sewing machine!

To be honest, I haven't done as much sewing with it as I would like.

My friend, Whitney, has been trying to help me remember/learn how to sew. I remember somethings about sewing from a homemaking class I took when I was attending BYU-Idaho. However, most of the things I remember from that class was how stressful it was.

Anyways, my friend Whitney had the great idea to make pillow cases, for the kids, for each major holiday. We had plans to start making them in December for Christmas, but that didn't happen.

One Thursday in January, she called me to come over and we spent most of the afternoon and evening sewing pillowcases. I am very pleased with how they turned out and the kids seem to be happy about them too.Of course the boys had to have a silly picture taken with their pillows too.I also made a smaller pillow case, to go on a smaller pillow, that we affectionately call in our house the "LOVE Pillow." Each night in February we have been passing around the "Love Pillow" in our family. As a family, we try to do nice things and serve whoever has the "LOVE Pillow"for the day. The person who has the "Love Pillow" then passes it on to someone new for the next day. It has been quite fun to have in the house. Sometimes tears are shed and/or fighting if someone thinks it has been too long since they had a turn with the pillow, but overall it has been a fun experience to have during this season of LOVE.

Snow Day in Memphis

On Monday, the day after I published my last post about not recieving much snow in Memphis, we woke up to snow! We didn't even know that it was supposed to snow so we were very surprised.

Brandon got the day off of from school, due to all the snow on the ground. The kids were very excited to go outside and play in the snow. The picture below was taken right before Hyrum threw a snowball at me.Of course, since it snowed a decent amount, the kids wanted to make a snowman. Everyone did a great job helping make the snowman(while I took pictures). When I went in the house to look for supplies to help make the face of the snowman, I turned around and saw this. The pictures doesn't do the scene justice. They looked so cute with their faces pressed up against the door waiting for me to come out!Hyrum had a cute idea to make a hat for the snowman. He thought of the idea and created the hat all by himself.
After we finished the snowman, the kids decided to take a roll down our hill. When they reached the bottom of the hill they decided to make snow angels.Brandon came up the great idea to use food coloring and water to make our snowman colorful. The kids thought it was an awesome idea. Ben chose to put yellow on the snowman. Emmy decided to settle for the color red since pink wasn't an option Hyrum choose the color green. The end result.I had hot chocolate and a blanket ready for them to snuggle up in and watch a movie. We had so much fun out in the snow as a family.
