Spring Fling 2017

These two had a fabulous Spring Fling earlier during April 2017. Both Ben and Emmy worked so hard on their songs and dances. In fact, Emmy is known to sing the Star Spangle Banner randomly. Ben has been finding their dance song on youtube and practicing in our living room. Their wonderful program had a fun Olympic theme. Of course, they had to stand on the gold medal spot together. Ben and Emmy's class was chosen to represent the country of Jamaica, hence the black and yellow shirts. The kids' grade did an awesome flashlight dance that was cool to watch. They had wonderful teachers helping them and the result was a spectacular night.

Hyrum's First Solo and Ensemble Competition

In the month of April 2017, Hyrum participated in a solo competition for his baritone at our local college. He worked so hard practicing his piece. He was a little nervous, but he did such a wonderful job. Hyrum received a 1-, which is just shy of the highest score that can be given. The judge was quite pleased with Hyrum's performance and had wonderful compliments for him. The judge encouraged Hyrum to keep playing and told him that he had a talent for playing the baritone. A huge shout out to wonderful people for working with Hyrum and helping him improve his technique and for being his accompanist.

Holiday Windows

Ben and Emmy and their classmates put on a fabulous Christmas program called Holiday Windows.

There were cute Christmas songs that were learned and sung.

Both Emmy and Ben played a solo on the piano in front of a few hundred people. Ben and Emmy were also asked to be narrators of the program.

Both Ben and Emmy worked so hard to read their lines of the program with flare and pizazz.   They dressed up as Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus.  It was so cute.  They looked fantastic!

The kids did a wonderful job in their holiday program.

Hyrum's First Christmas Band Concert

Back in December,  Hyrum had his very first Christmas band concert.

At the beginning of the school year, Hyrum tried out many different instruments, but he was drawn to one of the biggest instruments to play, the baritone.
He absolutely loves band and has improved so much in his playing ability. I can't believe how fast this handsome boy is growing up.

Piano Recital

The first of November brought a piano recital for Hyrum, Ben and Emily.

All three of my kids worked so hard on practicing their piano.  Some of the songs didn't come easy and they had to work hard to get them ready for the recital.  In fact, each of them received an award for being dedicated to practicing.

Ben played
Petite Gavotte by Martha Mier (this was one of my first piano recital pieces).
The Country Fiddler by Old English Morris Dance
Hedwig's Theme by John Wiliams

Hyrum played
Fur Elise by Beethoven
Harry's Wonderous World by John Williams

Emmy played
Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star Variations based on Mozart
Home on the Range               Cowboy Ballad
Swinging Along by Franz Behr

All three of the kids did such a wonderful job on their songs. Brandon and I were quite pleased.

The kids' piano ability has improved greatly this year with much practice and a great piano teacher, Calrissa.  We are excited to see what they will learn to play next.

Euphonium Fun

Having Hyrum in middle school has brought  new adventures to our home. Hyrum made the choice to join band and he made the choice to play the Euphonium.  The Euphonium is one of the biggest instruments in the band. Hyrum has to haul the big case to and from school quite often. Brandon has decided that the noise as Hyrum practices sounds like a dying cow. However, Hyrum loves it and in time will improve.  Hyrum is loving middle school!

Christmas Program 2015

During the month of December, we went to the Christmas program for Hyrum, Ben and Emily.

The kids had worked on their program songs for months! They were so excited for their Christmas around the world music program.

I even curled Emmy's beautiful hair and let her wear a little bit of lipstick for her big night.

Ben even had a speaking part and did great!

Hyrum's whole class got in the picutre.
We had a great time going to listen to them sing.  The kids did such a wonderful job that night!

Collation of Churches

One of the things that Hyrum enjoyed participating in during his school year was honor choir.

Hyrum absolutely loves singing, just like his mom and dad.  I thought he looked very handsome for his performance.

His choir was invited to sing at the annual community Collation of Churches performance.  His choir did such a great job and sounded nice. A person could tell that the choir put a lot of time in practicing their numbers.

Spring Fling

In April the kids had their Spring Fling.  The kids were so excited for this night to share with Brandon and I what they had been working so hard on.

The kids also worked hard with their Music teacher to learn fun songs to share during the night.

Ben and Emmy worked on a fun Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle song.  The kids even dressed up like turtles.
Ben and Emmy's class also dance to the song Shake It Off and a remix of All About that Bass.

Hyrum's grade performed a version of the Everything is Awesome song.  Hyrum was also able to display his music skills in accompanying his class with a xylophone and recorder.

Hyrum's grade pretended not to be very good dancers and then they did this amazing light show. I was disappointed, I forgot to empty my camera all the way before the night so I only was able to record a little bit of his light show. Brandon however was able to get a good amount on his phone.

I loved watching the kids perform that night. I knew that all the kids had worked so hard to be prepared and ready for the night.  It was cute to see how excite they all were to share their skills of dancing and singing.

Piano Lessons

The beginning of the school year brought the start of piano lessons for my Ben and Emmy.  Ben and Emmy were so excited to start piano lessons like their brother Hyrum. We are so fortunate because we have a wonderful piano teacher who lives next door and loves my kids, Chuck.

Hyrum was eager to start piano lessons again after a short summer break himself.

It is fun to hear the kids play and practice their developing talent.
